Take Control: Preserve the Meaningful Moments

Thu, 30 April 2015

Documenting your thoughts and experiences can be a highly valuable exercise.

Here are five compelling reasons why keeping a diary can help you discover more love, joy, freedom and authenticity:

1. Observe recurring patterns – Keeping a record of everyday activities and reliving moments of potential discomfort can help you to gain insights into unhelpful behaviour. You can begin to look out for such behaviours and start to address them as they occur.

2. Preserve your accomplishments – It’s so important that we acknowledge the special moments in life. Days can come and go in a flash, as we’re all busier than ever. If we don’t stop to appreciate our accomplishments the fear is that they pass by, unnoticed, uncelebrated. This is just as important in our working lives where we must preserve the achievements that make us feel proud of ourselves. This article by TLNT shares a number of valuable benefits of documenting your business success stories.

‘If you ever get discouraged, or have something happen that shakes your confidence, you can re-read your stories and revisit your accomplishments for your own benefit.’

3. Relieve anxiety – Checking in with yourself periodically, identifying your triggers and tracking your goals and to-dos are all highly effective ways to help let go of anxiety.

4. Appreciate the little things – The little things in life can often go by unappreciated. Recording the joyful moments each day is a great opportunity to stop for a moment and be grateful. Gather up the moments that make you smile, ponder over them for a short while and practice living in your heart space.

5. Aids sleep – Ever experience that moment when your head hits the pillow and your mind starts racing at 100 miles an hour? Well many people find that freeing up some headspace and relieving the brain of some of those thoughts can aid the process of relaxing and preparing for a good nights sleep.

Keeping a diary isn’t about writing epic reams, just record a few insights, thoughts, feelings, events and accomplishments that have occurred. It’s a wonderful way to get closer to your authentic self and a vital part of your own emotional autobiography.

Working with Pennie has been Life Changing, her expertise, her humour, her skill are all second to none. She knows when you need encouragement, a kind word or a kick up the backside and delivers each with empathy and grace. Since working with her my whole direction has shifted and I'm now living the life of my dreams.

I have really enjoyed the group dynamic of the course - the fact that I can bring anything to the group and not be judged... it was a real safe space. This was absolutely invaluable :) Also learnt a lot from having people with different experiences and different... levels (not sure how to phrase this) of spirituality. So I am fairly new to this work, but having Amy etc, as well as Pennie present really helped. Some of the interactions between Pennie and the advanced level practitioners was really insightful, and made me reflect on my own behaviour, ie there was stuff that was pointed to the practitioner and the issues they were going through, but also it helped me notice behaviours in myself that I was not aware of, so I got extra gold out of it. I feel like I have grown a lot over the last year and am much better equipped to handle life's ups and downs, especially in comparison with the old me.... and that is due to the breathwork and the things I have learnt. This whole process has been really invaluable. The format of the day was good.. nothing felt rushed and ample time left for discussion and theory and breathwork.
