Stress management and emotional intelligence for carers in the community
Facilitated by Pennie Quaile-Pearce and Lorraine Bonner
Being a carer of any kind can be very stressful and emotive, people find they have little or no time for themselves or taking care of their own health and wellbeing. Carers can feel alone and desperate at times not knowing who or where to turn. Pennie spent 4 years working as the Carers Recognition Worker in Surrey with GP surgeries raising awareness of carers in the community. She understands the carer’s worries and issues intimately, having helped care for her late Father. Lorraine also understands the role of carer’s as she spent 14 years working in care and is now the primary carer for her Nan. Pennie is now heading the team at Acorn to Oak and she is passionate to help and support carers continue to care for their loved ones, as well as care for themselves, helping them prioritise their own physical, mental and emotional health. Carers have a tendency to put their needs last.
At these groups carers will be able to talk about how they feel and what their issues are, in a nurturing, caring and safe space. However talk alone does not change things… action does, using Breath4lifeTM Breath Work helps deal with suppressed emotions and allows for greater clarity and resourcefulness in dealing with life’s ups and downs. This group will help to deal with any feelings associated with being a carer, such as resentfulness, guilt or helplessness.
“It’s an invaluable tool that helps me deal with my Nan on a daily basis. I have found that it has given me more patience and empathy to what she is dealing with. I still get frustrated at times, but at least I know I have something that will help me deal with it”.
Lorraine Bonner has been using Breath4lifeTM Breath Work for last 7 months
These sessions are funded by Acorn to Oak’s outreach project fund and cost the carer £5 each session. Monthly 1st Wednesday 11am to 2pm next session June 4th 2014.
